Words Fly Back to the Black Earth

Out of nothing, something; out of silence, sound. A calling inhabits the blank page, unfolding a secret writing of her’s. The written traces seep from the murmuring land, pushing through fragmented voices to become new forms - beings made material. Tremors from the construction of a reservoir in 1958 during China's Great Leap Forward reverberate through time, echoing in the emptiness of the pandemic. The voids between these moments brim with a search for agency: of land transformed, of women's unheard voices, and of memory buried but not forgotten. By breaking down linguistic structure, the film opens up a space for imagining, reading, and performing, giving room for an emergence; the roar lies on the other side of silence.
